How Hannah “Hit the Mark”
I Samuel 2:1-2 NKJV “And Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.”
Hannah’s prayer is a remarkable passage of Scripture teaching us how to pray prophetically over God’s people. Hannah’s prayer eloquently celebrates the holiness and sovereignty of God. Not only is Hannah’s prayer a testimony of God’s handiwork in her own life, but it is also a foreshadowing of His actions in the lives of the prophet Samuel, King David and the nation of Israel.
This generation needs a Hannah’s anointing as they march into a battle. But first we need to understand what the enemy's plan are.
His plan is to destroy the structure created by God, the structure of marriage between a man and a woman who have children in the union of marriage.
His plan is to distract this generation by making the world seem like a better place.
His plan is to make mental illness, depression, anxiety and lack of identity seem 'cool'.
One of the meanings of intercession is to “strike the mark”. This phrase derives from the Hebrew word, “paga”. Paga means ‘to meet”; it is the violent part of intercession. Job 36:32 tells of a violent ‘paga’ meeting; “He covers His hands with lighting and commands it to strike [the mark].”
If we are going to be a people who pray with purpose, “hitting the mark” in our prayers, we must be on a quest to search the heart of God. How can we do that? Where do we go to find God’s heart? We go to His Word to find His heart on prayer. Just like Hannah did!
To do this, take a chapter or a small section of Scripture and begin to think or meditate on it. Read the verses over and over again. As you do this, they will begin to drop into your spirit.
The Scriptures will become alive in your spirit and mind and a prayer plan will begin to form.
When I pray, I would find myself praying from those verses. I would find new meaning and new revelation in each verse. My prayers would come alive. As I prayed, I felt like I was hitting the mark and I was able to focus on what I was praying for. The Psalms is a great place to start and learn this method of prayer.
Now that we understand the plan of the enemy for this generation and how to prepare, we can now put on our armor of prayer and go to the battleground in our prayer rooms.
I want to share with you some points on how I prayed for my children and this generation. Let’s come in unity as men and women of God, and declare that “this generation shall be saved!”
1. I pray that they will fall in love with the heavenly father and His word.
I knew my sons would have to find Jesus for themselves one day and that they needed to personally understand… Jesus loves them. They also needed to discover that it’s a two way relationship, where it was necessary to fall in love with Jesus first, before they could find a spouse to love.
If they went into ministry, they needed to reflect the love of the Father in their heart. Most importantly, to have revelation on this scripture, that it’s the first and greatest commandment from the Lord; to love Him whole heartedly.
Matthew 22:37-38 NLT “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” Below is the greatest example and most powerful prayer you can ever pray, “The Lord’s Prayer” found in Luke 11:2-4 (NKJV).
His word promises that when they believe in Him they will do even greater things than He did. (John 14:12)
2. I pray that they will have a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit. Hallowed be Your name.
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Having a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit is so important because it empowers you to do the work of Jesus Christ.
3. I pray for the perfect will of God over their lives.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
His plan is to give them hope and to give them a great future so no matter what society says, we stand firm upon the Word of God and declare that they will prevail, they will prosper and they will walk in liberty.
4. I pray that God will send destiny helpers to their lives.
The Holy Spirt himself is a destiny helper but God also sends people into their lives to be destiny helpers.
Ruth was a destiny helper to Naomi
Pharaoh’s daughter was a destiny helper assigned by God to Moses
Jonathan, the son of Saul, was a destiny helper to David. At the risk of his life, Jonathan sided with David, ensuring that David was not harmed by Saul.
When we look at the state of this generation and the future of the nation, it almost feels as if there is no more hope but thankfully, we serve a Mighty God and if we continue to believe Him and His Word declaring His promises, then there is a very bright future ahead of us.
I want to conclude by saying,…. Yes, prayer is our greatest weapon, however to all the parents who are praying for their children to be saved, we need to understand that we also must lead by example.
Hannah prayed… and the Lord has granted her what she asked of Him. (1 Sameul 1:27)
Let’s pray and declare this over our generation and trust the Lord just like Hannah!
I declare that this is not a fatherless generation.
I declare that this generation shall be saved and that the generations to come will lead their families in the ways of the Lord.
I remove every distraction from their lives and declare that destiny helpers will come their way.
According to the Word of God, I declare hope and a great future for them.
I thank you Heavenly Father that they will fall madly in love with You and that You will fill every empty void in their lives, in Jesus Name!
Forgive quickly
Love deeply
