“When God lights a fire in your heart, it becomes a beacon of hope for the world.”
A fireplace is more than a source of warmth—it is a symbol of life, comfort, and connection. In the darkest and coldest moments, the glow of a fire draws people in, and brings a sense of peace to them. Imagine your heart as a fireplace, burning with the love of God, radiating His presence, and inviting others to experience His peace.
But a fireplace does not ignite itself—it requires careful preparation, intentional effort, and constant tending. In the same way, our hearts need to be kindled by God’s Spirit and sustained by His Word. When we make our hearts a fireplace, they it becomes a place where His love burns brightly, where His Spirit sparks transformation, and where others can come to find hope and healing.
Are you ready to let God set your heart ablaze? Let us explore how to prepare, ignite, and sustain a heart that burns for Him.
1. Build a Fireplace: A Foundation of Faith
Every fireplace needs a stable, firm foundation. Without it, the fire cannot burn safely or effectively. Our faith in God serves as this foundation.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
1 Corinthians 3:11: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
To make your heart a fireplace, build your life on the unshakable foundation of Christ. Let Him be the centre of all you do.
2. Gather the Wood: Fill Your Heart with God’s Word
Just as wood fuels a fire, the Word of God fuels our spiritual growth. The more Scripture we store in our hearts, the stronger and longer the fire burns.
“But if I say, ‘I will not mention His word or speak anymore in His name,’ His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.” (Jeremiah 20:9)
“I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:1)
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword.” (Hebrews 4:12)
Meditate on Scripture, memorise it, and let it guide your daily decisions. The Word keeps the fire of faith alive.
3. Ignite the Flame: Invite the Holy Spirit
A fire cannot start without a spark. In our spiritual lives, the Holy Spirit is the spark that ignites passion, love, and purpose.
“They saw tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:3-4)
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6)
“John answered them all, ‘I baptise you with water, but one who is more powerful than I will come… He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Luke 3:16)
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in your life and ignite a passion for God that cannot be extinguished.
4. Tend the Fire: Guard Your Heart
A fire left unattended will eventually burn out. Similarly, we must be diligent in giving attention to the spiritual fire in our hearts.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23)
“The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire.” (Leviticus 6:12-13)
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11)
Daily prayer, worship, and fellowship are essential to keep the fire alive. Be vigilant against distractions or sins that might quench the flame.
5. Share the Warmth: Be a Light to Others
A fireplace not only warms the home but also draws people in. When our hearts burn with God’s love, we become a source of comfort and light to those around us.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
“Praise be to the God… who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.” (Isaiah 61:1)
Let your heart’s fire inspire others to seek God. Show kindness, speak truth, and live out the Gospel.
Making your heart a fireplace is an ongoing journey of building, igniting, and tending. It requires commitment, humility, and reliance on God. Allow His Word to be your fuel, His Spirit your spark, and His love the warmth that draws others nearby.
