The Power of a Praying Pastor's Wife
Praying Effectively for Your Husband in Ministry and for Your Church
"But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit; guard and keep yourselves in the love of God; expect and patiently wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto life eternal."
(Jude 1:20–21) AMPC
As pastor's wives, we step into different roles —
• wife,
• mother,
• counsellor,
• encourager, hostess,
• Hostess
• servant—but our greatest ministry is often unseen: intercession.
Before we can strengthen our husbands or our churches, we must first strengthen ourselves spiritually.
Jude reminds us:
• to build ourselves up, - on your most holy faith
• pray in the Holy Spirit,
• remain in God's love
• live with hope.
A woman who is spiritually strong becomes a powerful instrument in God's hands.
How can we as pastors wife's Pray Effectively for our Husband
1. Pray for His Relationship with God
The greatest need of every pastor is not a larger ministry but a deeper relationship with Christ.
"Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing."
"But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do."
Pray that:
• He will remain in God and God in Him so that He tree can produce Good and healthy fruit.
• he loves Jesus above ministry,
• he stays sensitive to God's voice,
• he enjoys intimacy with the Lord.
2. Pray for Wisdom and Discernment
Pastors make decisions that affect families, finances, leadership, and souls.
"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind."
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
Pray that God gives him:
• wisdom,
• Pray for His faith to be in God alone
• Trust God with ALL his heart!!
• discernment,
• courage,
• clarity.
3. Pray for His Character
God values character above charisma.
"This is a trustworthy saying: "If someone aspires to be a church leader, he desires an honorable position." So a church leader must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach. He must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money. He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God's church? A church leader must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall. Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil's trap."
"But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"
Pray that he grows in:
• humility,
• integrity,
• purity,
• patience,
• kindness.
4. Pray for Protection
Ministry is spiritual warfare.
"Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere."
• Psalm 91
Pray for protection:
• spiritually,
• emotionally,
• mentally,
• physically,
• morally.
Pray against discouragement, temptation, burnout, and fear.
5. Pray for Fresh Anointing
People need more than information—they need God's presence.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed."
Pray that every sermon carries:
• revelation,
• conviction,
• healing,
• power.
6. Pray for Your Marriage
Your marriage is the first ministry God entrusted to you and your spouse.
"Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble."
"For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God's word."
Pray for:
• Unity
• friendship,
• communication,
• forgiveness,
• joy,
A healthy marriage strengthens a healthy ministry.
Marriage gives credibility to the ministry!!
Forgive quickly and love deeply!
